Portland is a Special Place

US-JC has been blessed from Day One with an outstanding location – beautiful Portland, Oregon in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. Portland (metro pop. 2.3 million) is really a big part of who we are – according to Monocle, a prominent London-based magazine covering culture and global affairs, “Portland, Oregon is the only city in America where citizens of the world should wish to live”; Travel & Leisure listed Portland #1 in “Quality of Life and Visitor Experience”.

Portland, which is often referred to as one of the most environmentally friendly “green” cities in the world, is home to Portland State University, Oregon Health & Science University, University of Portland, Reed College, and Lewis & Clark College. For sports enthusiasts there is the NBA basketball team, the Trailblazers, the Winterhawks Hockey Club and a Major League Soccer team, the Timbers.

Washington Park, in the West Hills, is where some of Portland’s most popular recreational sites are located, including the Oregon Zoo, the World Forestry Center, the Hoyt Arboretum, the internationally-renowned Rose Gardens [the oldest rose-test garden in the United States] and the Portland Japanese Garden [regarded the “best outside of Japan”]. The Portland Art Museum owns the city’s largest art collection presenting a variety of touring exhibitions each year.

With art walks, galleries, theaters, Farmer’s Markets and Saturday Markets, the community vibe is what sets Portland apart from other large cities. Offering residents small community feel with the benefits of large city life, such as endless shopping and amazing dining, an award winning mass transit system, never ending activities, and the beauty of the Northwest, it is no wonder Money Magazine proclaimed Portland, Oregon as “North America’s Best Big City”.
